By deploying AdPushup’s Ad Layout Editor and FrameRate, SonicHits’ ad revenue increased by 1271.25% and RPM boosted by an impressive 19.4% within 44 days.
SonicHits is an artist/album compendium of licensed lyrics and song meanings. The site is a paradise for music enthusiasts who want to connect with the artist or track they are currently listening to. With a complete musical package ranging from artist details, a list of albums, song meanings, and music videos, SonicHits is focused on bringing life to the music that people enjoy.
The website also serves as an open community for musicophiles to connect and share their musical recommendations.
SonicHits was facing quite a few challenges with their existing ad tech partner. Their support level was downgraded, which led to the removal of their dedicated account manager. This increased turnaround time for solving ad-related issues, denting their monetisation efforts. Moreover, the lack of transparency in revenue share created distrust and caused difficulty in revenue forecasting. On top of that, the ads did not generate the desired results, which directly impacted the user experience.
Noticing the need for a solution to increase earnings without impacting user experience, the SonicHits team began testing with AdPushup to explore potential solutions.
The publisher wanted a 15% month-on-month increase in the RPM compared to his Q1 2024 performance.
February: $1.17
March: $1.49
“Having worked with multiple ad partners over the years — from AdSense to Insticator and Freestar — I could tell when things were slipping with my last ad partner. My revenue was steadily declining, and losing my dedicated account manager felt like a major setback. I was downgraded to general support, and it became clear they weren’t being proactive about optimising performance. That’s when I realised I needed a partner who wouldn’t just manage my account, but proactively work with me to unlock the full potential of my site.” — Ben Meisner | SonicHits, Founder
AdPushup’s AdOps experts thoroughly audited SonicHits’s existing ad setup to understand their current configuration and identifed further optimization and improvement opportunities.
Based on the findings, Adpushup proposed the following solutions:
For the initial stage, our experts added three ad formats to the existing layout: Banner Video Switch ads, Banner ads above the fold, and In-stream Video ads on the homepage.
FrameRate is AdPushup’s proprietary in-stream video player. It utilizes machine learning to fetch real-time and user-specific targeted bids. The video solution has user experience-focused functionalities, ensuring only high-quality videos are served to the user.
Banner Video Ads are a type of advertising unit wherein the inventory is filled with a standard banner ad when no video ads are available for display. It is advantageous as it keeps the fill rate high, leading to more revenue for publishers.
Our team started with page layout optimization. Recognizing the distinct interface of each category on their website, our experts decided to add customized ad layouts for each category page for maximum viewability. In total, the team worked on fifteen-page layouts. Finally, regex was created to insert ads dynamically.
The team also implemented sticky ads to selected devices and countries. Customizations were made here as well. For example, the right sticky ad unit was resized to 300×280 pixels to avoid overlapping with the floating video ad on desktops.
For mobile ad optimization, the team enabled pencil floating ads at the bottom of the screen for instream video ads. These ads are highly regarded for their minimal intrusion into UI/UX, and offer better eCPMs to publishers.
Furthermore, the team implemented the flying carpet ads. These ads are ideal for mobiles as they take less space, do not affect the user experience, and can act as multi-size slots.
Finally, the team implemented the Banner Video Switch (BVS), also called in-banner video ads.
Another issue surfaced during one of the live sessions: the ads were not rendering properly on some browsers and devices. The team did the hygiene checks, paused and re-enabled the ad layout, and even raised the publisher support ticket on GAM (Google Ads Manager). Finally, they again collaborated with the tech team to remove the faulty URLs interfering with the Adpushup.js script and solved the issue.
The AdOps experts also added a few divs to the website code to display ads within a page section. On top of it, the team resolved a few other issues, like:
The AdOps team implemented manual floor price optimization to further boost performance. After stabilizing the performance, the team switched to AdPushup’s AI-driven dynamic automated floor engine.
Once the floor price optimization started showing results, the team analyzed the ad request trends and made adjustments to ensure relevant ads were shown to the right users at the right time.
The team then implemented +10 demand partners to increase the bid pressure. This led to performance uplift by another 20-30%.
The AdPushup team successfully delivered results that not only met but significantly exceeded SonicHits’s initial expectations:
The publisher was highly satisfied with the coherent strategy for ad layout optimization and stabilizing the overall ad performance. The team also commended AdPushup’s quick support and fast communication.
